The Wave Project
The Wave Project
The Wave Project is an inspiring initiative aimed at tackling mental health issues among young people by using surfing as a therapeutic tool. As per the NHS, one in six young people face a diagnosable mental health challenge, and the Wave Project’s mission is to make a meaningful impact in this area through early intervention, respect, and engaging activities.
Their Surf Therapy Programme is structured in three key steps:
Six-Week Surf Therapy Course – This foundational stage provides young people with guided surf lessons in a supportive environment. Surfing serves as an outlet for stress relief, confidence building, and emotional development.
Surf Club – After completing the initial course, participants can join a Surf Club, where they can continue to surf regularly and build a sense of community, maintaining their mental well-being.
Progressing to Volunteer – Finally, young people who have benefited from the programme have the opportunity to give back by becoming volunteers. This helps them develop responsibility, leadership, and a sense of purpose.
The Wave Project’s approach combines physical activity with mental health support, offering young people a unique way to overcome challenges while fostering a connection to nature and community.
